Priory House (Registered Charity No. - 517222) was opened in 1988 on land which was originally the 'Mill' grounds of the ruined Pill Priory.
The original buildings have been converted into a modern construction.
The team of qualified staff take it in turn to sleep at the house, in case of need during the night. The staff try to work with the residents to encourage them to become more independent. Of course, they are all individuals and each resident has different needs according to their abilities. They try however to find out what their residents want and then support them in fulfilling their needs. Part of their support is to show their residents how to do things for themselves, even things that they thought they could never do themselves. All residents have their own bedroom, they can bring their own furniture and choose how to decorate their bedroom. Each room has its own wash basin, toilet and bathroom nearby, that is shared with only a few residents. The house has their own laundry room, washing machines, driers etc. Everyone can use the 'smart' TV and VCR in the large dining/lounge room. The residents have also the added benefit of a 'quiet' room, with pay phone and computer access. Needless to say that the staff on duty are always available for a chat, they make everything safe for their residents, help with the medication etc. The large grounds are extremely well kept up to date by the gardener, residents have even access to an outdoor bathing pool. They have also access to a pool room where they can socialise with each other or with guests. A minibus is also available for trips and each resident pays a little towards its cost. Residents are encouraged to pursue their interests away from the house, such as going to College, work, to the Leisure Centre, theatre etc. Doctors, Dentists etc are linked-in to provide care for the residents. It is a fact that Priory House and its residents have been more than accepted by the villagers of Lower Priory. It was apparently also amazing to see how they were able to quickly mold themselves into the local scene. This most certainly came about due to the enormous efforts of the Trustees, the Manageres and the Staff of the house and this is a fact that one can only commend. Contact: Tel: 01646 690119
