As far as we know, the ruins of Pill Priory haven't had any constructive maintenance work done for many years. We purchased the property in September 2006 and we are presently working very closely with CADW (The Welsh Heritage Society) to rectify this matter.
I, Welsh resident of Flemish descent - Baasrode, East Flanders, Belgium and my wife (Welsh) consider Pill Priory to be a national treasure and our aim is to protect this site for future generations. We find it truly exciting that the history of Pill Priory came full circle, meaning that the "land" (12th century) on which Pill Priory was build belonged to Flemish descends and that Pill Priory is now back in Flemish hands so to speak. To us, Pill Priory will always remain a valuable historical asset for Pembrokeshire, the country of Wales and Great Britain as a whole!
Due to water ingress, remedial work was carried out to the South Transept, this where the Transept is attached to the cottage. The work was carried out with the consent of CADW and stood under the supervision of Mr Neil Daniels (Senior Architect of CADW).
August We enquired about the possibility of handing over the ownership of the Pill Priory's Scheduled Ancient Monument ruins to CADW. They replied that they have a formal policy for taking Scheduled Ancient Monuments into the care of the Welsh Assembly Government and their assessment of the site had been made against the procedures for evaluating proposals for Guardianship, they declined our offer of ownership and provided us with the following reasons for doing so:
We accept CADW's decision and we remain committed to them.
Although we removed 2/3 of the ivy off the Chancel Arch, this with the consent of CADW, grants are presently being sought from CADW to have the remaining 1/3 removed. The work comprises:
